Worked 6-in-12 example
A measured rise of 6 inches over a 12-inch run produces a 6-in-12 pitch. The angle is approximately 26.57 degrees and the slope is 50%. On a symmetrical building with a 24-foot span, one roof run is 12 feet and the plate-to-ridge rise is 6 feet.
The geometric common-rafter line is about 13 feet 5 inches before any ridge adjustment, overhang, birdsmouth, tail, or cutting allowance is added.
